I want to come clean with you: I have an agenda. This agenda works its way through my preaching, teaching, and writing. It shapes what I do and how I think. It compels me every day.
I want to bring it into the full light of day. I hope it resonates with you. If it does, we can partner together in the conspiracy of God to upright a world that has fallen over.
This hidden agenda has been with me since I was in my teens. You see, I started preaching the Gospel when I was a teenager. I would preach in churches, youth services, and pretty much anywhere I had an opportunity. I knew from the age of 16 God had called me to “preach the Word.” Now, more than 30 years later I find myself more passionately committed to this calling than ever before. This call to preach is rooted in my hidden agenda.
As a pastor, teacher, missionary, delivery truck driver, or sales representative I have been compelled by this hidden agenda. This agenda is rooted in a profound experience in my life: I was radically transformed when I discovered God loves me and has a purpose for my life. And now I want everyone to know the love and purpose God brings to every human life. He is the substance of all our longing for meaning, beauty, passion, and purpose.
I want others to experience this same life-giving, life-liberating truth.
Through my teaching, preaching, and writing I seek to:
- Renew minds with the Word of God. The citadel of the human mind is fiercely guarded by reasons and arguments intent on defending our blindness. Through the power of the Word of God we can demolish these strongholds and see people brought to freedom in Christ.
- Restructure behavior. Obedience is the end result of knowledge. When I speak about the mission of God I fully intend to address the actions and systems that advance or hinder the mission. I have written some brazen articles on this. Face it, if we want something we have never had we must do something we have never done. We must restructure our life to align itself with our renewed mind.
- Transform lives. A renewed mind and a restructured life results in transformed lives. Not only will our individual life be transformed, we become agents of transformation. I long to see disciples and churches that are agents of global transformation through the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
There you have it. My hidden agenda. I want to change the way we think, act, and live because I dream of a day when our little tribe has been so renewed in our minds to the Word of God and our lives so restructured to fulfill Kingdom priorities and Mission of God objectives that lives are transformed, hell is plundered, and heaven is populated. This is my agenda. Here I stand, I can do no other. So help me God.
