Hey everybody! This week I have a special treat. I interview Sam Johnson, Foursquare Missions International overseer to MENACA (Middle East, North Africa, Central Asia), a predominantly Muslim region. When Sam was in Bible College, he discovered that the vast majority of resources were going towards ministries where Christianity was already established. He felt the call to reach the Muslim people. So he took a year off between his Junior and Senior year to “test the waters” and see if it was the right fit. He’s been working with Muslims since the 1980’s. In the region that Sam works .001% of the population are Evangelical Christian. In this interview we cover a simple way to spread the gospel with foreign college students, practical tips on how to reach out to your Muslim neighbors now, and how we can address our prejudices towards a people group.

Hey everybody! This week, I have the great pleasure of interviewing my dear friend, Jonathan Hall. Jonathan was a missionary to Brazil and the former director of Foursquare Missions International. Today I want to explore some ways that we can be engaged and expand the mission of God outside of the traditional confines of mission and church planting. Is there such thing as Business as Mission?

If you want to connect with Jonathan you can email him: jhall@foursquare.org.

Hey everybody! Back in episode 35, I started an experiment with a couple that had not yet gone public with the news they would be moving to the UK to become missionaries. I have interviewed them several times, at different stages in this process. Episode 36 was just after they announced to their church, and episode 42 was an interview I did with Sarah’s parents about how they handled the news. Today, we’re getting an update from the road. Jonathan and Sarah have sold everything they own, and are now living out of a van. They are traveling all over the states, building relationships and gaining partners as they prepare to deploy to the UK.
If you want to connect with Jonathan and Sarah and keep up with them on this journey, sign up for their Newsletter.

I thought I would be further long by now. After all, I have been following Jesus for more than 30 years. But everyday I feel like I am taking that first step on an unknown journey. After all this time, why do I still feel like a novice?
Will I ever reach the point where I feel like I have arrived? Or at least that I have made some progress? Right now, the only thing I feel is my own bankruptcy.
“Try harder” I tell myself. I pray. I read my Bible. I try to follow Jesus in everything. But still, I show up every day broken and destitute, with nothing to offer Him but myself – my empty, needy, hurting self.
I stretch out my beggar’s hand, hoping for some morsel of bread to feed my weary soul. It is here in this beautifully broken place He gives Himself to me as the Bread of Life and whispers,
Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
